Editor's Note: See Part 2 here, Part 3 here, Part 4 here, Part 5 here, and Part 6 here.

Last night the Lenten Book Study for 2022 at St. Alban's Oviedo kicked off. We are studying The Purple Headed Mountain by Fr. Martin Thornton, and I introduced Fr. Thornton's three themes of Prayer, Penitence, and Creation. I also gave a basic overview of the Lenten disciplines of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer oriented around an Anglican Rule of Life.

If you wish to read along with us, you can purchase a beautiful edition from Akenside Press featuring a helpful new introduction written by Fr. Matthew Dallman. Fr. Dallman will also be joining us for a guest lecture during Lent.

In addition to the audio (below), you can also check out the introductory handout, which includes the reading guide for the prefatory material and chapter 1.

Fr. Mark Perkins is Curate at St. Alban's Anglican Cathedral in Oviedo, Florida and Executive Editor of Earth & Altar.
